Artifact 1: Google Classroom
Description: Google Classroom is an online tool that aids in distributing word-document assignments, and keeping a class schedule for all of the semester’s work (due dates, upcoming assignments, etc.).
Rationale: This artifact relates to instructional strategies because it is one that I used each day in class. It was a great way for students to connect to class, even when out of the physical classroom. In this class, I found that one of the best features of this program was being able to keep students up to date with materials and assignments from classes they missed due to absences. My students were all previously familiar with Google Classroom, as many other teachers at Noble High School use this tool, as well.

Artifact 2: CNN Student News
Description: CNN Student News is a ten-minute and commercial-free daily news program designed for middle and high school classes. This program is used every day at the beginning of class in order to provide students an opportunity to be exposed to current events and to raise meaningful discussion surrounding these events.
Rationale: This artifact is relevant to standard four because it is an engaging, yet simple way to convey the content (current events) to the students. If the goal as a teacher is to use current events as teachable content, it can be very easy to get lost in loose news articles. CNN Student News does a wonderful job at covering a variety of important and relevant topics in a very structured way. When it comes time for discussion, I use popsicle sticks with students’ names on them to call on every person at random. I do this in order to convey to my students that I am setting high expectations. The students understand that I pull popsicle sticks because I am confident that each and every one of my students is able to succeed in discussing the Student News if they put enough effort into it.
